Esports End of Year Wrap Up

NYU Esports grew significantly in the 2024-2025 academic year.

The program engaged over 1000 students  and surpassed over 1200 members in the program Discord. Esports crowned inaugural EA FC intramural champions, and continued with Valorant and League Legends intramurals. The Student Tech Center (STC) continued to collaborate with Campus Recreation in hosting events throughout the semester, including an end of year social for our competitive teams. NYU Esports worked with Violet Moon, a Valorant team specifically for women and other marginalized genders, as well as the STC hosting a National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration. Our collaboration extended to student groups in support of the Gaming Collective (TGC), who held weekly fighting game locals strengthening the Tandon gaming community.

For the first time ever, we also opened our gaming PCs at the Third North Student Tech Center to the entire student body.

On the competitive side, NYU Esports joined the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) last fall. Many teams also continued to participate in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE).The program ended the year with twelve competitive teams across five games - Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, and Counter Strike 2. The top team for each title is Violet Legion, with Violet Phantom, Violet OP following in ranking. Valorant also has Violet Rangers, an extra team due to the popularity of the game as well as the female-led, Violet Moon.
