It was a busy day for the New York University men's and women's track & field teams.
A majority of Violets hosted the NYU DIII Invitational at the Armory in Manhattan while several other team members competed at either the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University or the Tufts Stampede Open in Medford, MA.
In a day of highlights, the first domino fell with freshman
Gianna Dawson breaking her own 800m program record in Boston. She posted a time of 2:13.66, bettering the 2:15.14 she established on January 24 after erasing Ireland Gibson's old mark of 2:16.09 set in 2016.
Fellow freshman
Katharine Frank also competed in the race and ran a personal-best 2:21.79.
"Gianna continues to set new PR's and gain momentum as the season progresses," said Head Coach
Tyler Deck Shipley. "She's getting more and more comfortable with college racing."
Also at BU, personal bests were posted in the mile by
Katherine Cheng (5:05.33) and
Eliza Dickie (5:23.92).
In the 3000m,
Janie Cooper notched a personal best with a time of 9:38.95 as did

Several Violets
also competed in the 5000m.

Drew Boyce (13th, 12.78m).
A pair of Violets hit personal bests in the 400m:
Travis Perry (51.95) and
Lincoln Tutor (53.44).
"It was a great meet with a lot of outstanding performances," Deck Shipley added. "This is a premiere venue for track & field, and it's always special to host a meet at The Armory."
Next up for the Violets will be the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships, while will be hosted by the University of Chicago on Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2.
