The New York University men's soccer team dropped a match to the University of Rochester 2-0 on Saturday, October 11, in Newark, NJ.
Rochester quickly opened the scoring, getting on the board in the sixth minute of the match.
Jackson McCloskey recorded four saves in the half to keep the Yellowjackets off the board after that, as neither team scored for the rest of the half.
The second half featured far more chances to score for the Violets as both teams traded opportunities. The Violets had a pair of chances to score in the 67th and 68th minute of the match, both off the foot of
Terra Nagai. The first was a shot from outside the box that just missed wide to the left. The second came off a centering pass from
Ethan Zarka that Nagai shot on goal which was saved by a diving Yellowjacket's goalkeeper.
Despite the two close looks, the Violets were unable to land the equalizer.
The second half scoring stalemate was broken when an own-goal from NYU gave Rochester a 2-0 lead in the 83rd minute.
NYU looked strong in the second half, tallying 10 shots, including two on goal, but they couldn't quite put one in the net. McCloskey matched his first half numbers recording four saves, totaling eight across the match.
"I was very proud of how we responded to going down a goal," Head Coach
Kim Wyant said. "We talked about some things we needed to do at halftime. We came out and implemented them and created a lot of opportunities to score in the second half."
The Violets are back in action on Saturday, October 18, at 11 a.m. when they travel to Atlanta, GA, for a UAA match against Emory University.
