Members of the men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted by Columbia University, at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in Manhattan, NY, on Friday, January 24.
Julian Aske placed seventh in the men's 800-meter run, setting a new NCAA Division III-leading time of 1:50.85.
Ryan Tobin also claimed the top spot in NCAA Division III this season thus far with a seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meter run, recording a personal best of 8:10.97.
Both Aske and Tobin set new NYU program records in their respective events. Aske upset the 1967 record set by Byron Dice of 1:51.90 while Tobin surpassed Neil Sadler's time of 8:17.19 which was set in 2018.
Gianna Dawson also set a new Violet record in the women's 800m. Her time of 2:15.14 broke the Ireland Gibson's old mark of 2:16.09 set in 2016. Dawson finished fourth in the race with the NCAA's eighth-best time this season.
Alex Hrycysyzn set a personal best in the 3,000, finishing 26th with a time of 8:33.33.
In the women's 3,000-meter run, Janie Cooper secured ninth place with a personal best of 9:40.17, marking the second-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. Josephine Dziedzic shaved 40 seconds off her previous record, finishing in 10:00.65, while Lucy Gott achieved a personal best of 10:02.03.
The teams return to action tomorrow, Saturday, January 25, competing at The Armory in Manhattan and at the Widener Winter Evening Invite in Philadelphia, PA.
