Capping off an unblemished 2024 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup campaign, the Team USA U17 Women, led by New York University's
Meg Barber, captured the championship with an 84-64 win over Canada on Sunday night in Domo de la Feria, Mexico.
It was the third straight title for the USA and sixth in the tournament's previous seven editions.
In a back-and-forth start to the contest, Canada ended the first quarter with a 17-16 edge.
However, Barber's squad opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run and stayed in front for the remainder of the night. Later leading 28-26 with four minutes remaining until halftime, the USA went on a 13-4 run to take an 11-point advantage into the locker room.
The third quarter saw Canada get back to within as few as three, but Barber's team maintained a 59-51 edge heading into the fourth quarter.
Just over four minutes into the final period, the USA extended its lead to 20 with an 11-0 run. With Canada unable to overcome the deficit, Barber's squad comfortably closed out the title game.
Jerzy Robinson tallied 25 points (7-of-23 FG) on the night, good for her third straight performance of at least 20 points. McKenna Woliczko fell one rebound shy of a third consecutive double-double with 19 points (9-of-14 FG) and nine boards.
In addition to completing a perfect 31-0 season with the Violets en route to the national championship this past season, Barber also finished the World Cup with a 7-0 record.
