#1 Women's Hoops Set to Host NCAA Sweet 16

Violets Welcome Hardin-Simmons, Scranton & Johns Hopkins to NYC

New York University's top-ranked and undefeated women's basketball team has been selected to host sectional rounds of the 2024 NCAA Division III Tournament at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan on Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9.

The Violets will take on Hardin-Simmons on Friday night at 7:00pm, after Scranton and Johns Hopkins face off at 4:30pm. Then, the two winners play on Saturday night at 6:30pm with a trip to the Final Four on the line.

NYU comes into the weekend with a 27-0 record as the top overall seed in the tournament. Head Coach Meg Barber's Violets captured their third consecutive University Athletic Association (UAA) title in 2023-24 and are seeking their third straight trip to the Elite Eight.

The Violets defeated Millsaps, 78-51, in the first round before getting past their opening-weekend hosts DeSales, 93-59, in the second round. NYU has won all but two of its games this campaign by double-digits and has won 41 of its last 42 games dating back to last season.

Numerous awards have been collected by the Violets during this historic season, highlighted by Natalie Bruns winning her second straight UAA Player of the Year award in addition to her First Team All-UAA selection. Bruns broke the program's career blocks record (221 and counting) and surpassed 1,000 career points along the way.

Belle Pellecchia became the first player to ever win three consecutive UAA Defensive Player of the Year awards last month and was named First Team All-UAA, also recently surpassing 1,000 career points.

Graduate students Morgan Morrison and Megan Bauman joined Bruns and Pellecchia on the First Team after making an immediate impact upon transferring prior to the season.

The 2022-23 UAA Rookie of the Year Caroline Peper also received All-UAA honors with Second Team recognition while Barber, Associate Head Coach Nettie Respondek and Assistant Coaches Annie Barrett and Audrey Cunningham were named UAA Coaching Staff of the Year.
