New York University is ranked sixth in the country in the latest LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings for NCAA Division III, the best-ever ranking for the Violets at any stage of a season.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and
USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
NYU compiled 295.5 points throughout the fall seasons, sitting just five points behind fifth-place Wisconsin-La Crosse. The Violets top the University Athletic Association (UAA) in the standings, holding a nine-point edge over seventh-place Emory University.
Four NYU fall teams performed well in their NCAA Championships, led by
women's cross country's second-place finish as National Runners-Up which accounted for 90 Directors' Cup points.
Women's volleyball reached the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year, which was logged as a third-place finish in the standings and gave NYU an additional 83 points.
Women's soccer concluded its exceptional 2023 campaign in the Sweet 16 of the Tournament, which was good for ninth-place credit in the Cup standings and 64 points. Men's cross country rounds out the list,
finishing 16th out of 32 teams at Nationals for 58.5 points.
Johns Hopkins University leads the Directors' Cup after the final fall standings, holding an advantage of more than 100 points with 459.
NYU's winter teams — men's and women's basketball, men's and women's fencing, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's swimming and diving, and wrestling — will look to further boost the University's place in the final winter standings which will be released on March 28.
