New York University's
Viv Kane competed in the 1500-meter finals at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, May 27, at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, NY.
Kane punched her ticket to the finals after finishing with the fifth-best time (4:29.79) in Thursday's preliminary heats.
In today's 12-person championship race, Kane placed 11th with a time of 4:36.01. Annika Urban, of fellow University Athletic Association (UAA) member Emory University, won the 1500 title in 4:22.16.
"One moment doesn't define someone's whole season," said head coach
Tyler Deck Shipley. "I know Viv will be wanting a bit more from the result, but to put her season and first year in one word would just be 'proud.' She's really juggled a lot and has consistently been able to show up in the big moments and be ready on the national stage. I think she learned a lot that will allow her to excel going forward and have unwavering belief in how she will lead the team through action in the future."
Kane was in third after the second split, completing the first 700 meters in 2:03.21, but was overtaken in the latter half of the run.
Kane was the Violets' lone qualifier for the NCAA Championships. Her race today marks the final competition for New York University student-athletes in the 2022-23 academic year.
