The New York University women's track and field team kicked off the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championship weekend on Saturday morning. UAA Championships are being held on the campus of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), Apr. 25-26, in Cleveland, Ohio.
After completing the first day of action, the Violet women in 7th place with 19 points.
The Violets started strong with their first individual championship of the weekend in the first event of the meet.
Emma Grunin led the field in the women's javelin competition, peaking at 36.90m.
NYU closed out its day with its other top-three finish, as
Olivia Jackson (10:46.17) crossed the line third in the 3000m steeplechase final.
Two additional Violets logged top-ten finals finishes on Saturday.
Alexa McMillian held firm with a 5.27m jump to take seventh in the long jump standings.
Emily Castles finished eighth in the 10,000m final, clocking in at 37:05.80.
In preliminary action, two Violets advanced to the Sunday finals. Anna Kosmont registered the seventh-best time in the 100m prelims, clocking in at 12.64.
Gianna Dawson turned in her best time of the season in the 800m, finishing in 2:14.84. She took the eighth and final spot in Sunday's final heat.
NYU will look to climb the rankings on Sunday with competitors in the 1500m, 100m, 800m, 5000m, triple jump and high jump. The final day of the meet is schedule to begin at 9:00 a.m.
