Kane Breaks Women's 5k Record at Williams

Rookie ran a 16:56.95 to snap record by almost 3.0 seconds

Viv Kane broke the New York University women's track and field team's outdoor 5k record with a time of 16:56.95 at the Williams College Final Qualifier on Wednesday night in Williamstown, MA.

The previous record was 16:59.35 which was set by Emily Cousens in 2013. Kane bested the record by nearly three full seconds and finished first in the four-person race.

Grace Richardson also competed in the 5k for the Violets, clocking a time of 17:05.20 to finish second.

Kane now ranks 18th in Division III in the event (the top 24 runners qualify for Nationals) while Richardson sits at 31st after her 17:04.86 finish at the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 14.

NYU has one final meet day to achieve national qualifying times at the AARTFC Outdoor Regionals today, May 18, at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA.
