Three members of New York University's baseball and softball teams have received Academic All-District honors from the CSC (College Sports Communicators - formerly CoSIDA), it was announced on Tuesday.
In order to earn the distinction, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, possess a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 and be a significant contributor to their team.

Nick Argenziano,
Cam Dunn and
John Gassler, as well as softball team players
Samantha Burggraf,
Marina Egbert and
Sophia Leon.
Gassler, a graduate student, set NYU's program record with 13 strikeouts vs. Russell Sage on May 7. The lefthanded pitcher also set career records for strikeouts (159), strikeouts per nine innings (12.3) and batting average against (.203). In 2023, Gassler started 11 games, allowing only one hit on two occasions and never surrendering more than three earned runs in a game en route to posting a 2.28 ERA.
Dunn, a sophomore, led the Violets in home runs (7), doubles (9), triples (2), RBI (39), runs (35), slugging percentage (NYU-record .684), total bases (78), on-base percentage (.493), and walks (23), while finishing second with a .386 batting average. Holder of a career .365 batting average, the NYU third baseman has started 58 of 59 career games.
Argenziano, a senior first baseman, made only one error all season and posted a .995 field percentage. At the plate, the May graduate batted .273 and led the Violets in at-bats (121), was second in runs (33), third in home runs (2), fourth in doubles (7), and fifth in hits (33) and stolen bases (6). Argenziano holds the program record with four walks in a game (April 10, 2022 vs. Brandeis).
Burgraff, a senior third baseman, batted .309 in 2023, the third-highest mark on the team. She was also third on the Violets with a .395 slugging percentage and 13 RBI and was fourth in doubles (4). The May graduate shares the team record with four hits in a game (vs. Manhattanville on March 30, 2022) and was an Easton/NFCA Scholar All-American as a junior.
Egbert, a sophomore pitcher, hurled a no-hitter against Hunter College on May 9. She led the Violets with eight wins, a 2.62 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, 107 innings pitched, 65 strikeouts, .251 batting average against, 13 complete games, 19 appearances, and two saves. As a freshman, Egbert set team records for innings pitched (120.2) and strikeouts (73), while also earning Easton/NFCA Scholar All-America honors.
Leon, a senior outfielder graduating in the fall, led the Violets in batting average (.371) and runs (21), was second in hits (33) and third in stolen bases (5). Holder of a career .332 batting average and .386 on-base percentage, Leon has played in 70 career games, 67 as a starter. NYU's leadoff hitter also sparkled defensively in 2023 with a .963 fielding percentage.
All six honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, Second- and Third-Team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 6 for softball and June 7 for baseball. T
