21st-ranked women's fencing team took home a medal at the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championships on Saturday in Madison, NJ.
Sixteen universities competed in the NIWFA's 94th annual tournament, hosted by #30 Drew University.
The foil squad took third with a 37-8 record behind 12th-ranked Temple University in first place and #17 Johns Hopkins University in second.
Maria Stamos led the way for the Violets, placing fifth.
Polly Adler was eighth and
Holly Fong was 15th.
The saber team just missed the podium, finishing fourth with 33-12 behind first-place Temple, second-place John Hopkins, and third-place, 24th-ranked Brandeis University.
Allison Dunlap finished 11th while
Mari Binstock was 13th and
Hannah Hoverman was 14th.
The épée squad was sixth at the end of the day with 29-16.
Sophia Dondisch recorded the highest place from the Violets in 11th.
Ria Jobalia was 16th.
"Our foilists finished in the top three thanks to solid fencing from Polly, Holly and Maria," Head Coach
Ben Bratton said. "Women's saber fell just short of medaling, which was a little disappointing. But overall, the team was very consistent throughout the day."
Next up for the Violets is the NCAA Regional Championships hosted by Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, on March 12.
