Wrestlers Compete at Futures Tournament

Nick Bell Takes 184-Pound Crown

Several members of the New York University wrestling team took part in the Mideast Futures Tournament, which was hosted by Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, on Sunday, February 19.

In the non-scoring team competition geared towards underclassmen, NYU freshman Nicky Bell won three bouts en route to finishing first in the 184-pound bracket. He compiled two decision victories and one fall to capture the title, defeating Demitrius Ruiz of The College of New Jersey 2-1 in the final.

NYU also had a third-place finisher in sophomore Jack Garcia in the 157-pound bracket. He posted four victories, three by fall before grabbing a forfeit win in the third-place match.

Sophomores Benny Bautista (133) and Finn Eskeland (174) each posted two victories before being eliminated, while heavyweight freshman Luke DuPont  recorded one fall.

The NYU wrestlers will be back in action for the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Saturday and Sunday, February 25-26. Hosted by the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, ME, bids to the NCAA Division III National Championship will be on the line.
