The
14th-ranked New York University women's golf team finished in first place at the Williams College Golf Championship, holding a seven-stroke lead after two rounds at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, MA, on Saturday and Sunday.
It was the second tournament victory of the fall season for the Violets, who won the NYU Invitational their last time out on September 17 and 18.
"The team played great under tough conditions today," said head coach
Katie Rudolph. "I challenged us to be the best on par-threes and we were one-under as a team. That, along with our captain
Camilla Chung's 72 helped us get across the finish line. Our freshman
Tiya Chowdary continutes to produce great rounds for us as well."
NYU finished with a two-day total of 610 while Amherst College placed second (617) in the nine-team field.
Chowdary and Chung led the way for the Violets, tying for third individually with a six-over 148. Chung's one-over par 72 on Sunday led the team and propelled her up the leaderboard.
Stephanie Su's total score of 155 tied for 15th while
Summer Yang (159, t-21st) rounded out the Violets' scorers.
Irene Park also competed for NYU, posting a 165 across the two rounds to tie for 35th in the 60-player competition.
The Violets will look to continue their strong play next weekend, traveling to Middlebury, VT, for Middlebury College's George Phinney Classic on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2.
