The New York University Women's Fencing Team took bronze at the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championships on Saturday, March 5, at Drew University in Madison, NJ.
The Violets trailed only Temple University and Johns Hopkins University in the 13-team competition.
As a team, NYU placed second in foil, fourth in saber and eighth in epee. Combined, the squads accumulated 73 victories. Temple produced 95 and Johns Hopkins finished with 81.
Individually, Leanne Chen placed third in sabre and
Renee Wu posted a sixth-place finish in foil.
"The team continued its strong end-of-the-year performance in preparation for the NCAA regionals next weekend," said Head Coach
Steve Mormando. "Both experienced fencers and freshmen contributed to a fantastic result."
The squad now prepares for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, which will be held at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, next Sunday, March 13.
