Maria Stamos, the lone member of New York University's Women's Fencing Team competing at the NCAA Championships, was in action on Thursday, March 24.
The four-day event, which consists of all NCAA Divisions, is being held at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.
The only Division III qualifier in her weapon, Stamos has completed the first two rounds of the 24-person foil competition.
Each fencer faces all of the other 23 qualifiers, with the top four moving on to the semifinals and the top-12 earning All-America honors.
On Thursday, Stamos went up against 15 opponents and won three bouts. She defeated Sabrina Cho of the University of Pennsylvania 5-1, Camilla Rivano of Ohio State University 5-3 and Renata Chusid of Cornell University 5-4.
Two of her losses were 5-4 squeakers to Annora Lee of Harvard University and Alina Lee of Ohio State.
Stamos will be back on the strip tomorrow when she competes in her final eight bouts.
The men's competition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, with NYU featuring four qualifiers.
