New York University's 13th-ranked wrestling team posted a fourth-place finish at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College in Springfield, MA, on Saturday, November 19.
The Violets accumulated 89.5 team points, only .5 behind third-place Trinity College.
"Proud of the effort demonstrated by the team today to end up taking fourth with 12 wrestlers on the mat and missing four weight classes," said associate head coach
Corey Luce. "It was a week of injuries and illness, but those that competed did not use that as an excuse to wrestle with less than their full intensity. Looking forward to healing over the holiday, as we head into our first dual meets."
The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) won the 14-team competition with 153 points.
Individually,
Matt Kelly (197) and
Nick Kruczynski (141) placed second in their respective brackets.
After receiving a first-round bye, Kelly posted identical 18-0 technical falls over his opponents. He then edged Darby McLaughlin of Western New England 2-1 before being pinned by Coy Spooner of USCGA.
After a first-round bye, Kruczynski won three decisions before falling in a close 2-0 bout to Xavier Pena of Centenary University in the finals.
Hassan Khan finished fourth in his 157-pound bracket, recording two falls before losing in the semifinals.
