Amber Cannady has been hired as New York University's Athletics Development and Alumni Affairs Coordinator.
A 2014 graduate of the University of New Haven with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a concentration in Elementary Education and a minor in History, Cannady was a four-year member of the Chargers' women's volleyball team. She served as the team's captain as a junior and senior, was selected Division II East Region Player of the Year and the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year as a senior, and was a three-year member of the New Haven's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Cannady joins the Violets after serving stints as an Assistant Volleyball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at her alma mater (2015-17), Columbia University (2018-20), and most recently at Seattle University (2020-21). While at those stops, in addition to her on-court coaching and recruiting responsibilities, Cannady also worked in the areas of development, marketing, fund-raising, budgeting, and event management.
"Amber has a deep understanding and appreciation for athletics, and has discovered her passion in the area of development and how it can have a significant impact on the student-athlete experience," said
Stuart Robinson, NYU's Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics. "We're excited to welcome her to the NYU family."
Cannady also played professional volleyball overseas for
BSA JAV Olimpico in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. Her teams advanced to the semifinals of the CEV Challenge Cup and the Spanish League for the first time in program history, and she finished as one of the top-five 5 blockers of both competitions.
Cannady, who still ranks among the top-10 career leaders at New Haven in block assists (#5, 353), total blocks (#6, 471), and solo blocks (#9, 118), is looking forward to her new challenge.
"I am very appreciative of
Stuart Robinson and the search committee for appointing me to this role," Cannady said. "I'm looking forward to furthering the experience of our student-athletes as we continue to develop future leaders and cultivate a sense of belonging in our alumni community as we reconnect. With my unique lens as a former collegiate coach and student-athlete, I'm ready to be a driving force behind this and the advancement of our department and university mission."
Cannady is a native and resident of Yonkers, NY.
