Zahra Alexander of women's basketball and
Mo Talebi of wrestling were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week following their respective postseason success this past weekend.
Talebi produced the program's second-ever individual national championship, as he conquered the 197-pound bracket at the NCAA Division III Championships on Friday and Saturday in Cedar Rapids, IA. The sophomore from Beverly Hills, CA, won by decision in each of his four bouts, culminating in a 10-5 win in Saturday's championship match.
As a team, NYU finished in fourth place, marking its best result in program history.
Alexander was outstanding in helping to lead NYU to two victories over the weekend. She averaged 17.5 points on 72.2 percent (13-18) shooting from the floor, including a near-perfect 5-6 (83.3 percent) from three-point range.
