Four New York University student-athletes have earned weekly honors following their outstanding performances over the weekend.
Kaley McIntyre of women's swimming & diving was tabbed a University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week, while
Tanmay Chandra of men's golf, as well as
Jiayi Fu and
Inha Jun of women's golf, were honored by the Liberty League.
Chandra and Jun were both Rookies of the Week, while Fu was named a Performer of the Week.
Helping the Violets capture their first team National Championship in program history, McIntyre led the way with individual National Championships in the 50, 100, and 200-yard freestyle races, and relay championships in the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays. She added on with All-American status in both the 200 and 400-yard medley relays.
Boasting five total National Championships, McIntyre was named the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Division III Women's Swimmer of the Year.
In his first-ever competition for NYU, Chandra shot -6 over three rounds at the Indian Mound Men Individual Invitational. This event featured individuals who were not competing as part of the Jekyll Island Invitational team event. This individual event consisted of 25 golfers. Chandra shot two rounds of -3 and one of even par. He finished seven strokes ahead of the second-place finisher, Josh Pethel, of the University of Rochester.
Fu finished tied for fifth individually at the Jekyll Island Invitational over the weekend. In a field of 120 golfers, she registered a +7 over the three rounds, including a one-under-par 71 in the second round on Saturday. Her performance in the Violets' season-opener helped lead #3-ranked NYU to a first-place team finish in the 24-team competition, four strokes ahead of #1-ranked Emory University.
Also at the Jekyll Island Invitational, Jun tied with Fu in fifth place after shooting +7 overall. Her best round came in the third, when she shot an even par and jumped up eight spots on the leaderboard.
