The New York University Wrestling Team totaled 177 points and finished first at the Racich Rumble, hosted by Urisinas College in Collegeville, PA, on Saturday, November 13.
"It was a total team effort in winning this tournament," said Senior Assistant Coach
Corey Luce. "Nine guys placed and we had to gut out a lot of wins."
NYU's top finisher was
Jason Geyer (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), who won the 174-pound bracket. In a dominant performance, he produced five victories including four shutouts, including a 9-0 win over Joe Paul of Johns Hopkins University in the final.
Overall, Geyer out-pointed his five opponents 38-1.
"I was just trying to have fun, score points and win matches," Geyer said. "It was a really good day."
At 133 pounds,
Nick Tannuzzo (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset) placed second, while three team members (
Scott DuPont (Holmdel. NJ/Holmdel)-184,
Trent Furman (Washington Township, NJ/Westwood Regional)-157, and
Nick Kruczynski (Natick, MA/Natick)-141) produced third-place finishes.
"We really put out a great effort today," Luce added. "The coaching staff is really excited about what we've seen so far and where we're headed."
The squad returns to action next Saturday, November 20, at the New York State Championships hosted by SUNY Cortland.
