Violets Lose to North Carolina Wesleyan

The New York University men's tennis team, currently ranked #35 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), fell to #20 North Carolina Wesleyan College 7-2 on Sunday, March 1 in the Bronx, NY.

With the loss, the Violets are now 0-2, while the Bishops stand at 4-3.

The Violets got off to a tough start, losing all three doubles matches.

In singles play, however, NYU had a few really strong matches. After losing the first set 1-6, freshman Alex Yang (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro ) stormed back to win the #1 match, winning the last two sets by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Senior Zeb Zheng (Charlotte, NC/Concordia International School Shanghai) also won the #6 match in three sets, defeating his opponent by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

"We showed some good fight today against a tough team," said Assistant Coach Eric Halpern. "It was closer than the scoreboard showed and we'll look to get back strong next weekend."

The Violets return to action this Saturday, March 7, when they face Southern Virginia University back at the Stadium Tennis Center at 10:00am.
