The New York University men's tennis team fell 4-3 to Brandeis University on Sunday, April 19, in Waltham, MA.
In doubles play, the Violets won two of three matches to secure the doubles point against their University Athletoic Association (UAA) opponent.
At No. 1, the duo of Bryan Hui and Niklas von Hellens earned a 6-4 win, while the No. 3 pair of Louis Frowein and Boris Slesarev also posted a 6-4 victory.
In singles action, the Violets secured two of six matches.
At No. 3, Frowein earned a 6-4, 6-3 win, while at No. 5, Shido Ito added a team point. He split the first two sets, 7–6, 3–6, before capturing the tiebreaker.
"I'm really happy at the level most of the guys played at today," said Assistant Coach Ron Moreno. "We played a team on their own turf and they had several things in their favor before the first point was even played. That said, the boys started out with the right energy, they won that first point and continued into their singles match with the right competitive edge. We lost some key points and that made the difference."
The Violets will travel to Altamonte Springs, FL, for the UAA Championship beginning Thursday, April 23.
