Official Results
The New York University men's track & field team is in fourth place after the first day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships. The Violets are hosting the meet on Saturday and Sunday, February 29-March 1, at the Armory in Manhattan.
NYU's foursome of
Jack Lillian (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley),
David Obwaya (Blaine, MN/Blaine),
Benjamin Heintz (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North), and
Ben Karam (New York, NY/Xavier) placed third in the distance medley relay (10:10.03), which was worth six of the Violets' 22 points.
Washington University in St. Louis leads the seven-team competition with 58 points.
The weight throw was worth seven points for the Violets, as
Carter Beardsley (Summit, NJ/Newark Academy) (14.41 meters) and
Owen Mountford (Mountain View, CA/Mountain View ) 14.26m), finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Also scoring for NYU was
Landon Edwards (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest), who was fourth in the high jump (1.90m), and
Matthew Edelman (Westlake Village, NY/Westlake), who was fifth in the long jump (6.46m).
Several runners qualified for Sunday's finals in the 60-meter hurdles (Obwaya,
Julian Montilus (Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham)), 60-meter dash (
Kamden Martin (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan)), 200 meters (Martin,
Brian Kaiserman (Las Vegas, NV/Faith Lutheran)), 400 meters (
Daniel Akande (Franklin Township, NJ/Franklin Township)), and 800 meters (
Jon Diaz (Brookline, MA/Brookline)).
Sunday's second and final day of action is set to begin at 9:30am.
