The New York University wrestling team competed at the Futures Tournament, hosted by Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, on Sunday, February 23.
Kade Loughney (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) was the team's top performer, winning the 165-pound bracket. He went 3-0 on the day, producing a fall and a technical fall.
In the 174-pound bracket,
Justin Leonard (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) placed second. He also won three bouts by decision before losing in the championship match.
Izzy Fox (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) also placed second in the 197-pound bracket after going 3-1 and recording three falls.
Johnathan Keltz (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) also secured a second-place finish in the 125-pound division. He won his quarterfinal and semifinal matches by fall and decision, respectively, before losing the championship bout.
In the 197-pound bracket,
Gabe Rodrigues (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) finished in third place, going 5-1 on the day with two falls.
Overall, NYU's wrestlers finished the tournament with a 31-13 record.
"It was good to see our guys who won't be wrestling next week (at NCAA Regionals) get the opportunity to compete today," said Senior Assistant Coach
Corey Luce. "It also shows how deep with talent this team is, having four finalists. Our guys who competed today would be starters for a lot of other teams."
NYU returns to the mat on Saturday, February 29, at the NCAA Northeast Regional Qualifier in Providence, RI.
