The New York University women's swimming & diving team, ranked #7 in the nation by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), has closed out competition in the Bomber Invitational, which was hosted by Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, Friday-Sunday, December 6-8.
The Violets earned a combined 1,967 points over three days of competition, putting them in first place out of 11 schools. SUNY Geneseo held on to second with 1,271 points, while host Ithaca finished in third with 838.5 points.
Day three of the invitational consisted only of swimming events. NYU began the day by absolutely dominating the 1,650-yard freestyle.

Jessica Flynn (Charlotte, NC /Charlotte Latin School) won NYU's first individual race of the day, swimming 51.60 in the 100-yard freestyle and earning a cut, as well.
Sydney Catron (Alexandria, VA/Bishop O'Connell) followed by winning the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.34) and securing her sixth cut of the invitational.
Honore Collins (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) earned another cut after winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.37). Then, in the final event of the meet, the 400-yard free relay, the team of Collins, Catron, Brodnick, and Flynn managed to earn a cut after taking first in the race (3:28.01).
"I am really happy with our performance this weekend," said Head Coach
Trevor Miele. "The team has worked extremely hard this semester and it's awesome to see them swim so fast at mid-season."
Ultimately, over the course of three days, 13 different Violets racked up a total of 22 NCAA cuts (with relays counting as one).
"We have a lot more hard work ahead of us," added Miele. "But, we have set ourselves up well for the NCAA's."
With today's victory, the Violets have won their third meet of the season, thus closing out 2019 on a high note. The swimmers and divers will return to action on Saturday, January 11, when they host Wagner College on Family/Senior Day at the Palladium Athletic Facility.
