Mid-Winter Duals Results
The New York University wrestling team swept four dual matches in dominating fashion at the Mid-Winter Duals, which were hosted by Pennsylvania Technical College on Saturday, January 12, in Williamsport, PA.
NYU, which is ranked 19th in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, started the day off with victories over a pair of fellow Northeast Regional opponents, New England College (47-9) and Rhode Island College (42-6). The squad followed those wins up with two more, this time against a pair of former Centennial Conference rivals, Johns Hopkins University (45-3) and McDaniel College (54-0).
"Our goal was to dominate from start to finish today and we did just that," said NYU Senior Assistant Coach
Corey Luce. "We knew our depth would be a strength this season and it certainly showed today."
With the victories, NYU improved to 9-1 on the season and has now won six-straight dual matches.
Will Crisco earned the highlight of the afternoon with a 3-2 decision to beat Ryker Eckenbarger of McDaniel. After earning victories in his first two bouts of the day, Crisco defeated Eckenbarger, who entered the day ranked #3 in the
d3wrestle.com 133-pound poll.
"We were looking forward to this match and Will certainly showed he deserves to be mentioned with the top wrestlers in the country at 133 pounds," added Luce. "That win will go a long way for his confidence as we move deeper into the season,"
Crisco wasn't the only NYU wrestler to win at least three matches, as his fellow captains
Evan Drill (141 pounds),
Sean Lyons (149 pounds) and
Jack La Corte (197 pounds) also accomplished the feat. Three underclassmen,
Cole Karam (157/165 pounds),
Kade Loughney (165 pounds) and
Jacob Lill (285 pounds), also won three matches on Saturday.
La Corte won four times to improve his record this season to 17-1, while Lyons also went 4-0 on the day to take over the team lead in wins with 26.
"Our upperclassmen are doing a great job setting the tone and our younger wrestlers are following their lead well," concluded Luce.
NYU is slated to return to action on Friday, January 18, when it hosts Centenary College at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
