The New York University men's soccer team won its fifth straight game, defeating host Hunter College 4-0 on Saturday, September 15, on Randall's Island in Manhattan.
Following an opening-game loss, NYU (5-1) has posted three shutouts and allowed only one goal in its two other games.
Saturday's game remained scoreless through the first half, but the Violets' four-goal barrage began at 57:16 and ended less than 18 minutes later.
The assault began when
Louis Meeks tickled the twines for the first time in his collegiate career on an assist from
Richie Rambarran, his first of the season.
Less than 10 minutes later, at 66:51,
Matteo Russo notched his second goal of the season when his shot caromed off the top post and into the net.
Oliver Kleban, who assisted on the goal, produced one of his own less than four minutes later (70:21), putting one in following a cross from
Alexander Dano. It was Kleban's team-leading fifth of the season.
Vince Bulzoni capped the scoring at 74:25, tallying the first of his career supported by an assist from Meeks.
"A lot of players are gaining experience and our depth is helping to wear teams down," Head Coach
Kim Wyant explained. "Many players, especially members of the freshman class, are making important contributions."
Grant Engel did not need to make a save during his 72:06 in the net in order to record his fifth victory. Angelo Lazar made one save in the final 15:74 to secure the shutout.
"We're playing well as a team right now," Wyant said. "We're sticking to our tactics and getter better with each game."
The Violets outshot the Hawks 14-4, including 7-1 on goal. NYU took four corner kicks, while Hunter was shutout in that category.
"Our professional, focused approach to each opponent will serve us well as we move forward," Wyant concluded.
The Violets return to action when they host Baruch College on Wednesday, September 19, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.
