The New York University men's volleyball team, ranked #7 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), dropped a straight-set match (25-23, 25-11, 25-17) to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Sunday, February 18, at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.
The Violets (6-4) are now 0-2 in United Volleyball Conference (UVC) action so far this season, while the Engineers are now 9-2 overall and 2-2 in the UVC.
The first set was the most competitive of the match, with NYU leading by as many as four points on two occasions. However, with the Violets ahead 21-17, MIT rallied to score the next four points. Then, after a pair of ties at 22-22 and 23-23, the Engineers tallied the final two points to take the set.
MIT scored the first three points of the second set and never surrendered the lead in taking a commanding 2-0 advantage in the match.
The final set was a bit more competitive as NYU fell behind early but pulled within 16-14 midway through. However, the Engineers scored the next five points and went on to clinch the match.
"Tough loses to start the UVC season. We'll be back in UVC action in 10 days and should be totally healthy by then," said Head Coach
