Jonathan Iaione of the New York University baseball team earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Position Player of the Year honors, while teammates
Colman Hendershot and
Jack Walter also received All-UAA honors, it was announced on Wednesday, May 10.
Iaione finished the regular season with a .447 batting average, which was the highest in the UAA. The junior also led the UAA in hits (59) and finished second in the Association in doubles (15), RBIs (44) and home runs (three). Iaione played in and started all 36 games for the Violets and recorded at least two hits in half of them.
Hendershot, who joined Iaione on the All-UAA First Team, led the UAA in RBIs (51), home runs (five) and slugging percentage (.662). The sophomore started in 33 games for NYU and tallied multiple RBIs in 14 of them, including eight with three or more.
Walter was named Second Team All-UAA after leading the Association in runs (51) and walks (25). His .506 on base percentage ranked 2nd in the UAA, while his .377 batting average was the third-highest on the team and ninth-best in the UAA. The centerfielder started in 34 games this season and only committed one error in 82 chances (.988 fielding percentage).
This is the first-career postseason honor for all three student-athletes.
The Violets finished their regular season on a four-game winning streak and with a program-record 23 wins (23-13).
