NYU RESULTS
The New York University wrestling team competed at the New York State Intercollegiate Championships on Sunday, November 19, at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
NYU, ranked #10 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III poll, finished ninth out of 23 teams. Division I host Cornell won the competition, while Army Prep and Ithaca College rounded out the top three.
"The guys we brought wrestled well," said NYU Senior Assistant Head Coach
Corey Luce. "This is one of the best tournaments we compete in and our wrestlers stepped up."
Senior captain
Raymond Jazikoff was NYU's top finisher. The South Plainfield, NJ, native won four bouts on the day and finished in third place in the 157-pound bracket. His only loss came against a Division I opponent from Cornell.
"Raymond continued to wrestle tough," added Luce. "He showed he can compete among the best and he won't be satisfied unless he is on top of the podium."
Also placing for NYU were
Landon McBride and
Jack La Corte. McBride finished in fourth place at 125 pounds and La Corte came in fifth at 197 pounds.
"Landon and Jack gained tons of confidence with their performances today," explained Luce. "They both can compete against anyone."
NYU returns to action on Sunday, December 3, when it travels to Hackettstown, NJ, to compete at the Cyclone Duals, which are hosted by Centenary University.
