The New York University wrestling team dropped its first dual meet of the season, falling 24-9 to Division II Long Island University-Post on Friday, December 2, in Brookville, NY.
NYU (6-1), ranked #16 in the most recent Division III National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, picked up victories at three different weight classes.
Anthony Calvano was the squad's first winner on the day, as the junior earned an 4-1 decision at 133 pounds.
"We asked Calvano to pick up his intensity throughout the match and he did," said NYU Assistant Coach
Gene Kobilansky. "The third period was his strongest."
NYU's other winners were captains
Raymond Jazikoff and
John Messinger. Jazikoff, who is ranked #9 by the NWCA at 157 pounds won his bout 6-0, while Messinger, the #7-ranked 174-pounder earned a 6-2 decision.
"It was a tough team loss," concluded Kobilansky. "But, our guys will shrug it off for tomorrow's rivalry match against Hunter."
The squad will be back in action tomorrow when it hosts Hunter College. Wrestling is set to begin at 11:00am at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, NY.
