The New York University men's volleyball team heads to Rochester, NY, this weekend for the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Championship Tournament, hosted by Nazarath College. The #8-seeded Violets will face top-seeded Nazarath on Saturday, April 12, at 10:30 am.

NYU (16-10, 5-6 UVC) heads into Saturday's match with the #10 Golden Flyers (15-9, 10-1 UVC) on the heels of four wins over its last five matches, including two straight. The Violets only loss during that span came in a tight 3-2 contest at #15 Baruch College. On the other side of the spectrum, NYU faces an opponent which has lost four of its last five matches, two of which came in non-conference matches versus UVC opponents #9 Medaille College and #11 Elmira College.

Leading the charge for the Violets will be a pair of seniors in team captain and primary setter Connor Mortalnd and middle blocker Nick Capriccio. The duo recently earned All-Conference honors from the UVC for the third season in a row.

In addition, a trio of outside hitters will lead NYU's offensive attack. Sophomores Phil Bueno and Colin LaPorte, and two-time UVC Rookie of the Week freshman Chase Klein, have been the top offensive forces for the Violets all season long.

Klein leads NYU in kills (298), kills per set (3.63), points (347.5), and points per set (4.24), is tied for second with 24 service aces, and is third on the squad in digs (95). Bueno leads the squad in total blocks (69), blocks per set (0.88), service aces (28), and service aces per set (0.36), and is fourth in kills (162), kills per set (2.08), points (232), and points per set (2.97). LaPorte ranks second on NYU in kills (248), kills per set (3.10), points (294), and points per set (3.67), and is tied for second with 24 service aces and fourth in digs (92).

NYU and Nazareth have met once before this season when the Golden Flyers came out on top 3-1. The meeting came in the first match of the second UVC Crossover on Saturday, March 8, in Elmira, NY.

The winner of Saturday's match between the Violets and Golden Flyers will meet the winner of the Elmira/Medaille match in the semifinals later that evening at 5:00 pm.

Live stats and video will be available on the UVC Tournament Page all weekend. Recaps of NYU's matches will be available at gonyuathletics.com.
