Mortland, Capriccio Earn All-UVC Honors

Two Men's Volleyball Players Named All-Conference

Seniors Mortland (L) and Capriccio (R) each earned All-UVC honors for the third-straight season.


Connor Mortland and Nick Capriccio of the New York University men's volleyball team have earned All-United Volleyball Conference (UVC) honors. The announcement was made on Thursday, April 10.

Mortland earned his second-career First Team All-UVC honor, and now has three total in addition to last season's Second Team honor. The senior captain is currently first on NYU's all-time list in career assists (3,468) during the rally-scoring era, and third overall in program history. He is also ranked fourth all-time in the rally-scoring era in asststs per set (10.57).

The San Diego, CA, native leads NYU this season in assists (788), while also leading both the Violets and the UVC in assists per set (10.51). That number also ranks Mortland second in the nation as of the most recent NCAA statistical rankings (through April 6).

Capriccio earned his second-career Second Team All-UVC honor, and now has three total in addition to last season's Honorable Mention. The senior middle blocker is currently second in NYU program-history in attack percentage (.403), both all-time and during the rally-scoring era. He is also ranked fourth all-time during the rally-scoring era in sets played (380), services aces (87) and total blocks (297), and is fifth all-time during the rally-scoring era in solo blocks (54) and block assists (243).

The Huntington Beach, CA, native is tied for the team lead this season in service aces (28), is second in total blocks (67), block assists (54), solo blocks (14), and service aces per set (0.35), and is third in kills (175), kills per set (2.19), points (243.5), and points per set (3.04). Capriccio also ranks second in the UVC in hitting percentage (.416) and sixth in aces per set. His hitting percentage also currently places him third in the nation in NCAA Division III.

Mortland, Capriccio and the rest of the Violets finished the regular season witha 16-10 overall record, including 5-6 in UVC play. NYU heads into the UVC Championship this weekend in Rochester, NY, as the #8 seed. The Violets will take on host and top-seeded Nazarath College in the first round on Saturday, April 12 at 10:30 am.
