NYU 82 CSI 66

The New York University women's basketball team defeated the College of Staten Island 82-66 at home on Wednesday night, November 19, at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

"A lot of credit goes to Staten island," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "They came out, played hard and had a good game plan. They have a lot of tough payers on their team."

The Violets (3-0) and Dolphins (1-1) played to a five-point NYU lead, 37-32, after a hard-fought first half for both squads.

NYU was ahead by only one point, 42-41, when they outscored Staten Island 14-0 to take a commanding lead. The advantage grew to as many as 21 in the second half.

"We hit the offensive boards really hard and had more of an inside presence in the second half," continued Hall-Gregory. "I think the strength of our team is really in the paint."

The Violets outscored CSI 40-10 in the paint and held a 54-32 rebounding advantage.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Megan Dawe led the way for NYU, registering her first double-double of the season and the fifth of her career. She led all players in scoring (23) and was second in rebounding (10).

- Emily Rowe notched her first-career double-double, grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds and chipping in 10 points.

"Emily gave us a good boost off the bench and Megan took over for a stretch, as well," said Hall-Gregory.

- Riley Wurtz also scored in double figures, finishing with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.

- NYU totaled 17 steals against the Dolphins, led by Wurtz, Melissa Peng and Drew Cabral, who each finished with three.

- Kaitlyn Read contributed all-around, registering nine points, two steals and a team-best four assists.

"Whether you win or lose, you're always going to reflect upon what happened in the game and try to improve in your next game and your next practice," said Hall-Gregory. "I'm glad we got the win and pulled it out."

NYU will return to the court when they travel to Springfield, MA, on Saturday, November 22, to face Springfield College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm and live stats will be available.
