at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.The Violets (11-6-1) and Pioneers (9-7-3) played a total of 110:00 scoreless minutes, but due to the playoff format, a winner needed to be decided by penalty kicks. After each team reached five attempts in the shootout period, the Violets came out on top with the 4-3 advantage. The winning kick came off the foot of senior captain midfielder
Mickey Ingerman following a William Paterson shot that ricocheted off the post.
NYU was led the entire way by sophomore keeper
Lucas Doucette, who recorded a season-high 11 saves during the shootout victory. In addition, there were two instances where senior defender
Justin Suter got in the way of Pioneer shots on net, recording two more stops for NYU, credited as team saves. William Paterson also saw a shot attempt hit off the crossbar.
"Lucas was outstanding," said NYU Head Coach
Joe Behan. "He made the most outstanding saves throughout the game. It's a horrible way to lose a game for William Paterson. It was unlucky. We battled and never gave up. An ECAC semifinal is a massive bonus for us. We'll make the most of it."
In addition to Ingerman, fellow captain sophomore midfielder
Petter Aasa, freshman midfielder
Vegas Kastberg and sophomore midfielder
Ryan Cerqueria all scored during the shootout.
