The New York University men's and women's basketball teams will play their first University Athletic Association (UAA) road contests of the season this weekend, playing the University of Chicago on Friday, January 17, and Washington University-St. Louis on Sunday, January 19.
The women's team will match up with the Maroons (6-6, 0-1 UAA) on Friday night in Chicago at 6:00 pm central time. The Violets (12-0, 1-0 UAA) are
ranked #25 in the most recent USA Today Coaches Poll and are coming off a
67-57 UAA-opening victory over Brandeis University at Coles on Saturday, January 11. NYU was led by sophomore guard
Riley Wurtz, who led all scorers with a season-high 21 points. The Violets hold the 34-18 all-time edge over the Maroons and were winners of the most recent meeting, 67-53, at Coles last February 17.
The men's squad will take the court following the women's game for a scheduled 8:00 pm central time tip-off against Chicago (7-5, 0-1 UAA). NYU (11-1, 1-0 UAA) is also coming off an Association-opening
win over the Judges, 64-58 in the second half of last Saturday's double-header. The Violets were led by reigning
Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) Division III Metro Player of the Week sophomore forward
Evan Kupferberg, who dropped in game-highs with 18 points and eight rebounds. The Maroons hold a 28-25 edge in the all-time series, but the two squads have split their last eight meetings.
Following a day for travel, the Violets will be back in action against the Bears in St. Louis on Sunday.
In the first half of the double-header, the men will take on a #7-ranked Washington (10-2, 1-0 UAA) squad at 12:00 pm central time. The Bears lead the all-time series 39-13, but the Violets were able to take the most recent meeting, 86-82, at Coles over then-#17 Washington on February 15 last season.
The women's game will follow against the #2 Bears (11-1, 1-0 UAA), with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 pm central time. Washington has the edge, 37-16, all-time but NYU was able to take the most recent meeting, also on Febraury 15 of last year. The Violets topped the then-#13 Bears 67-59 at Coles.
