Sophomore Leading team in Scoring and Rebounding

ECAC Release

Evan Kupferberg of the New York University men's basketball team was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Player of the Week on Tuesday, January 14.

The sophomore forward led the Violets to a 2-0 record last week. He notched his fifth double-double of the season with game-highs in points (20) and rebounds (11) in the Violets' 66-63 victory at Hunter College on Tuesday night, January 7.

Kupferberg followed that up with an 18-point, eight-rebound performance (both game highs) in NYU's University Athletic Association (UAA) opnener at home. The Violets bested Brandeis University 64-58 at Coles on Saturday, January 11.

The 6-foot-6 Boca Raton, FL, native currently leads the squad in points (18.1) and rebounds per game (9.6).

This is Kupferberg's first ECAC honor of his career. He now has three weekly honors this season, earning UAA Athlete of the Week and D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Monday, December 9, as well.

Kupferberg and the rest of the Violets will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Chicago and St. Louis for two UAA contests. NYU will face the University of Chicago on Friday, January 17, with tip-off scheduled for 8:00 pm central time. The squad will then face Washington University-St. Louis on Sunday, January 19, with a scheduled 12:00 pm central time tip.
