Highlights
- NYU entered the season finale winners of two straight, and in the first half appeared to be on its way to a third consecutive victory. The Violets used an 8-1 run to go up 25-19 late in the period, and took a 36-28 lead in the locker room after a pair of late
Cassidy Jourdan three-pointers.
- For the first half, NYU went a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line and shot 12-28 (42.9%) from the field.
- The second half, however, belonged to the Judges (10-15, 4-10). After
Riley Wurtz hit a triple to put the Violets up 44-36, Brandeis held NYU without a field goal for more than seven minutes.
- During that drought, the Judges went on a 16-3 spurt to pull ahead. Wurtz hit a layup with 5:33 left to cut the Violets' deficit to just three, but Brandeis responded with another big run, this time 8-1, to pull away. NYU got no closer than six the rest of the way.
- Wurtz and
Nicole Lem led the Violets with 12 points apiece. Wurtz added 10 rebounds to record her seventh double-double of the season, as well as six assists. Jourdan and
Alexis Doherty each added nine points.
-Erika Higginbottom paced the Judges with 16 points. Samantha Anderson and Janelle Rodriguez scored 12 points apiece.
“I'm proud of the way we fought and played hard all year long,” said Head Coach
Lauren Hall-Gregory. “I know we'll be better next year.”
- Wurtz finished the season with 119 assists, the third-most in a season in school history and the most ever by an NYU freshman. Dawe's season field goal percentage of 52.2% is the ninth-best in a season at NYU.
Melissa Peng also etched her name in the record book, as her free-throw percentage of 79.7% is eighth-best in a season at NYU.
