Box Score

The New York University women's basketball team led nearly the entire game but ultimately fell 57-54 in overtime to first-place University of Rochester in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, February 1, at the Coles Sports Center.

Playing in front of a packed house of 1,278 in a Tear It Up! game, the Violets (8-11, 1-7) led from the 15:24 mark of the first half until the final minute of regulation. However, the Yellowjackets (15-4, 7-1) fought all the way back and forced overtime, where they took an early advantage and survived an NYU buzzer beater attempt.

Highlights

- The Violets built a 32-23 halftime advantage with stifling defense, holding Rochester to just 23.5% (8-34) shooting in the first period.

- NYU still led by nine with 6:21 left before the Yellowjackets made their comeback. Nicole Lem hit a layup for the Violets with 4:39 to play to make it 50-43, but NYU would not score for the rest of regulation.

- Down three in the final minute, Amy Woods hit a layup plus the foul to knot the score with 33.7 seconds left. Rochester turned it over with 3.4 ticks on the clock, giving the Violets a chance to win it at the buzzer, but Riley Wurtz's off-balance three rimmed out.

- The Yellowjackets gained a 56-54 advantage in the overtime period, but could not make it a two-possession game after going 1-4 at the line. Wurtz again took a three at the buzzer, this time trying to tie and force a second OT, but her attempt was off the mark.

- Lem led the Violets with 13 points and eight rebounds. Wurtz had six points, 15 boards and seven assists. Melissa Peng, Rachel Crittenden and Alexis Doherty contributed eight points apiece.

- Danielle McNabb paced the Yellowjackets with 17 points. Woods finished with eight points, 16 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

“We gave ourselves an opportunity to win, but we just couldn't get a stop down the stretch [of regulation],” said Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory.

NYU returns to the court on Sunday, February 3, when it hosts the team tied with Rochester for first place in the UAA, #16 Emory University. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
