Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 in 2OT Versus Chicago

Doucette Records 18 Saves

Doucette made 18 saves, the second most in program history.

BOX SCORE

The New York University men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker at home at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, on Friday, November 1, falling 1-0 to University Athletic Association foe University of Chicago in double overtime.

The Violets were led by an outstanding performance from freshman goalkeeper Lucas Doucette. The rookie recorded 18 saves in the contest, the second highest single-game total in NYU men's soccer history.

Three plays stood out specifically for Doucette. Midway through the first, he was bombarded with a series of shots on goal by Chicago, and the rookie saved them all. Early in the second half, the Violet defense was caught off guard and Doucette was alone on an island, but proceeded to reach back against his momentum and make another outstanding save. Lastly, after NYU was called for a red in their own box, the Maroons had a penalty shot which Doucette promptly saved.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Senior defender Juan Velez led the Violets with three shots (one on goal).

- Doucette's 18 saves are the most by any Violet keeper since the 1993 season.

- Chicago's Kyle Kurfirst scored the game-winner off a rebound in the 106th minute.

NYU will be back on the pitch on Sunday, November 3, when it hosts Washington University in St. Louis at Gaelic Park for Senior/Family Day. It is also the second installment of the Violet Nation Presents: Tear it Up! series. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
