The New York University women's basketball team was defeated by the University of Rochester 83-68 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Friday, January 25, in Rochester, NY. The Yellowjackets (13-4) improved to 5-1 in Association play, while NYU (8-9) dropped to 1-5.
The Violets got off to a strong start, gaining a lead of six points at the 13:58 mark in a back-and-forth first half. Rochester, however, would storm back, taking an 11-point lead with 1:26 left in the half. A late NYU run, capped by a buzzer-beating
Melissa Peng jump shot, cut the advantage to seven at the half.
In the second half, however, the Yellowjackets would dominate, extending their lead to as much as 23 points before ultimately winning by a margin of 15.

Riley Wurtz and
Cassidy Jourdan each had 14 points to lead the Violets. Wurtz narrowly missed a double-double, pulling in nine rebounds and adding five assists, while Jourdan sank four of eight three-point attempts.

Megan Dawe and
Nicole Lem, who each had 11. Lem added seven boards, while Dawe grabbed five caroms.

Alexis Doherty scored a season-high eight points in just 13 minutes off the bench, shooting an extremely efficient 4-5 from the field.
- The Yellowjackets were propelled by a balanced attack, with three players in double figures. Loren Wagner led the way with 12 points as 11 players scored for Rochester.
"I was very pleased with how we came out in the first half and how we battled back in the second half," said Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory." Moving forward, we need to be able to sustain that same sort of intensity and composure for all 40 minutes."
The Violets return to action this Sunday when they take on #18 Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
