The
#1-ranked New York University women's basketball team won its first game at the Montreal Shootout against Hamilton College on Monday, December 29, in Montreal, Quebec.
The Violets outscored the Continentals 48-22 in the second half to register an 86-48 win.
NYU found itself trailing for the first time this season, down 12-9 with less than two minutes left in the first quarter. However,
Olivia Lagao knocked down back-to-back three- pointers, after which the Violets remained ahead for the remainder of the afternoon.
With NYU up 27-24 just over halfway through the second quarter, the Violets outscored Hamilton 11-2 over the final four minutes of the half to take a 38-26 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, NYU exploded for 31 points, including 11 from
Aila Kaibara, and held the Continentals to 12 points, which put the game out of reach.
Finishing up a 38-point win, the Violets recorded their 71st-straight victory.
Kaibara recorded a game-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Lagao followed with four made shots from deep as well for 14 points.
NYU will close out 2025 with a contest against SUNY Oneonta tomorrow as a part of the Montreal Shootout Tournament. Game time is set for 2pm.
