Women's Basketball Victorious over Brooklyn College

Violets Extend Win Streak to 70 Games

The #1 ranked New York University women's basketball team returned to action on Saturday, December 13, hosting the Brooklyn College Bulldogs at the John A. Paulson Center in Mahattan. The Violets improved their undefeated record to 8-0 after defeating the Bulldogs (7-3), 90-48

The Violets have yet to trail at any point this season and that trend continued after Saturday's game. Brooklyn played competitively for a majority of the first quarter, trailing NYU by just one point until the Violets went on a 10-0 run.

NYU led Brooklyn at the end of the quarter, 19-8.

"It's been a long layoff without a game, so I thought it was a little bit of a slow start," said Head Coach Meg Barber. "Once we got our chemistry going and started putting a little more effort into the defensive side of the ball, our offense was very productive."

The NYU offense took off in the second quarter, scoring 32 points led by Brooke Bachelor and Caroline Peper's combined 20 points. NYU led 51-20 at the halftime break.

The hosts held Brooklyn to just nine points in the third quarter as they entered the final frame with a 72-29 lead.

The Violets defense was hitting on all cylinders throughout the game, forcing 39 Brooklyn turnovers. Bachelor finished the game with a season-high nine steals.

Peper led all scorers with 25 points, adding 10 rebounds and 7 assists. She leads all of NCAA Division III women's basketball, averaging 5.50 three pointers per game coming into Saturday's contest. Bachelor added 16 points and Sofia Corral led the bench with 10 points. Yasmene Clark contributed eight rebounds.

The win extends the Violets' win streak to 70 games; the second longest in NCAA Division III history.

The Violets will get an extended break before they return to action on December 29 in the Montreal Winter Tournament in Québec, Canada. The Violets will play Hamilton College at 2:00 p.m., before facing SUNY Oneonta the following day with the same scheduled tip-off time.
