The New York University women's basketball team's second-half comeback fell just short as the Violets were defeated by the University of Chicago 72-68 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) game on Sunday, January 20, in the Windy City.
The Violets (8-8, 1-4) trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half and were down 61-51 with less then six minutes left. At that point,
Riley Wurtz bagged a three-pointer and started a 14-6 run for the Violets.
Megan Dawe's layup with 1:01 remaining brought NYU to within 67-65.
However, Chicago's (5-10, 2-3) Paige Womack nailed a three-pointer as the shot clock wound down with just 33 seconds left to re-establish a five-point lead.
Wurtz was unsuccessful on an ensuing layup attempt with 19 seconds remaining, and two free throws by Ellie Greiner with 18 seconds left sealed the game for Chicago.

NYU returns to the court on Friday, January 25, for a UAA game at the University of Rochester at 6:00pm.
