Box Score

The New York University women's soccer team defeated Purchase College 3-0 to pick up its first victory of the season on Thursday, September 6, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

Serra Tumay, Cami Crawford and Melissa Menta scored the goals for the Violets (1-1), who outshot the Panthers (0-3) 33-1 for the game.

Highlights

- Tumay opened the scoring in the 12th minute, knocking in Menta's cross after the goalkeeper couldn't corral it.

- Crawford upped the lead 2-0 in the 71st minute with help from Taylor Francoeur and Leslie Smith. Francoeur played a through ball to Smith, who got enough of it to Crawford after the keeper charged attempting to break up the threat.

- Menta made it 3-0 nine minutes later, burying a shot to the far corner after Smith played her through.

- Dating back to last season, the win was NYU's fourth in its last five contests.

“It was great to get our first win of the season at home,” said Violet Head Coach Michele Canning. “We hope to build on it going forward.”

NYU returns to the pitch this weekend, September 8-9, for the Stevens Engineering Cup in Hoboken, NJ. The Violets will face Kean University on Saturday at 3:00 pm and Ursinus College on Sunday at 3:00 pm.
