Violets Drop UAA Contest

The #22-ranked New York University women's soccer team fell to #1-ranked Washington University 3-1 on Saturday, November 1, in St. Louis, MO.

With just under five minutes left in the first half Carmen Cicerini scored the lone goal for the Violets. She sent a shot curling low into the far right side of the net from the middle of the box to put the Violets on the board with a 1-0 going into halftime.

In the 13th minute, Hunter Hoelscher had a chance to put the Violets on the board but it went just high of the net.

The first 45 was defensively heavy with only five total shots getting off between the two teams. The Violets had two, and only one on goal which found the back of the net.

NYU held the lead for the firs ten minute of the second half before the Bears tied it up off a goal from Kate Martin who tucked the ball into the upper right corner. Five minutes later the Bears added the game-winning goal off a ball slotted into the lower right corner off the foot of Sophie Viscovich.

Marlee Scanlon added another chance for the Violets in the second half, shooting the ball right down the center that the Bears were able to keep out.

With four minutes left to play, the Bears added a third goal when Olivia Clemons collected a loose ball and dribbled right into the back of the net to make the score 3-1.

The Bears out-shot the Violets 13-3.

Maddy Tohanczyn made five saves in goal for the Violets.

The Violets are back in action on Saturday, November 8, at 12:30 am for Senior Day. NYU will host Brandeis University in the final UAA match-up of the season at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.
