Box Score
The 10th-ranked New York University men's soccer team improved to 8-0 and extended its shutout streak with a 5-0 victory at Hunter College on Monday, September 24, at Randall's Island in New York, NY.
Kyle Green scored the 18th recorded hat trick in school history to lead the way for the Violets, who outshot the Hawks (1-7-1) 22-0 in their final non-conference tune-up before beginning University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday. With the win, NYU is 8-0 for the first time in school history.
Highlights
- Green opened the scoring in the 28th minute, getting in behind the defense and finishing an unassisted goal.
-
Mac Yumoto made it 2-0 in the 39th minute, collecting a ball on the right side and burying a shot.
- Green added two more goals early in the second half, the first on a cross from
Mickey Ingerman and the second on a penalty kick. The hat trick was the second of the senior's career and moved him into fourth in school history in career points (65) and goals (26).
-
Nate Simons also converted a penalty kick, this one in the 89th minute, after being brought down in the box. The goal was the first of his NYU career.
- By keeping Hunter off the scoreboard, the Violets extended their streak of consecutive shutout minutes to 467:42 while recording their fifth straight shutout. NYU has allowed just two goals in its first eight games, a feat it also accomplished in 2003.
“Very few teams are able to go 8-0, so the team deserves some recognition for an incredible start to the season,” said Behan. “Now we move forward to the UAA, and we're going to keep taking it one game at a time.”
The Violets return to action on Saturday, September 29, for their UAA opener at defending Association co-champion Case Western Reserve University. Game is at 7:30 pm.
