Highlights
- The meeting between NYU and Washington was once again a tense battle, with the Violets ultimately holding a 10-8 edge in shots and 7-1 advantage in corners. The match was the eighth straight in the series that was either decided by one goal or ended in a draw.
- The Violets nearly got on the board just before halftime, when Nimo Freitag Bergstroem played a pass to a wide-open
Kyle Green inside the box. Green's shot, however, traveled wide past the charging keeper.
- NYU also had a great chance in the 75th minute.
Ryan Horch played a ball into the box from 40 yards out that ended up nearly going in. But, Washington goalkeeper Jonathan Jebson got enough of the ball to punch it off the crossbar and away from danger.
- Just minutes later, the Bears broke through for what turned out to be the game's lone goal. The Violets attacked hard in the final 10 minutes but could not net the equalizer.
- Goalkeeper
Jonas Poster finished with two saves in goal for NYU, as did Jebson.
“The team is very, very disappointed,” said Head Coach
Joe Behan. “We definitely learned that a game can come down to what you do in the box on both ends. We had a lot of chances and didn't convert, and they had some and did.”
The Violets conclude their UAA weekend road trip on Sunday, October 14, at the University of Chicago. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm central time.
