Behind a 58-39 advantage in kills, the New York University men's volleyball team pulled off a 3-1 win over Division I Princeton University on Sunday, March 13, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
The Violets (12-6), currently ranked #5 in the AVCA Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll, completed the season sweep over the Tigers (1-13) for the first time since the beginning of the rally-scoring era in 2001 with the 3-1 (18-25, 29-27, 25-14, 25-22) win.
"I was very happy with the way the team rebounded from dropping that first set so badly," said head coach
Jose Pina. "They battled on offense and defense and pulled out a nice win that should prepare us well for California this weekend."
Leading the charge for NYU was
Taylor Fauntleroy, who notched 18 kills on offense while also putting up 5 digs.
Also recording double-digit kills on the outside was
Pat Dodd, who tallied 12 while also notching all four of the Violets' service aces.
Nick Capriccio paced the middles with 10 kills to go along with six blocks.
Fellow middle
Fran Hodgson led all players with a career-high-tying 11 assisted blocks while also recording eight kills.
Along the back line on defense, libero
Dylan Ramey totaled a career-best 15 digs to lead the team.
For the Tigers, Michael Dye notched 18 kills, while Vincent Tuminelli led all players with 21 digs.
The Violets return to action this weekend when they travel to northern California to take on University of the Pacific on Friday and University of California, Santa Cruz on Saturday.
